This is getting ridiculous now. Strain and recovery are just pitiful. So much promise from my meeting with them but nothing has been done. ![]()

I have same problem, both with the 5.0 on my wrist and biceps. Everytime I run, whoop measures my heartrate 40 beats to high for 15-20 minutes, after that it mostly nails it. But by then my Strain are already super high.
Same here.. been using the 5.0 MG for about a week now and have no prior experience with Whoop. I’ve noticed the same during cardio exercises like running or using the elliptical is that, for the first five minutes or so, the heart rate readings from the Whoop seem unreliable — there are a lot of fluctuations. Meanwhile, my Apple Watch and the machine’s built-in sensors show much more consistent readings. After about five minutes or so, however, the Whoop seems to stabilize, and the fluctuations seem to disappear, with the readings aligning closely with the other devices.
For cycling mine never gets to the point where it’s good. Seems awful the whole ride ![]()
But your Helio Strap recordings look 1a tiptop ![]()
I have since several weeks 5.0 sitting on my left bicep and Helio Strap on my right bicep.
Every time after a weight lifting session I’m very disappointed about 5.0’s HR reading and from that resulted calories and strain. Steps counting is off too. In the meantime I’m just tired of that.
Helio Strap on my right Bicep, Whoop on my right wrist. Since I have the MG and still use ECG & BP insights best it stays there. I just ignore Recovery and Strain ![]()
Recovery and strain are better today but if I look across all my apps whoops recovery is considerably lower.
My morning low volume high intensity lifting session today.
1 warm up set for chest
3 hard working sets for chest
1 warm up set for bicep
3 hard working sets for bicep
1 hard working set for left bicep (extra set for my weak parts)
5.0 on left bicep:
Helio Strap on right bicep:
With helio you can see all the peaks, on the other hand Whoop a kind of ‘something’.
Helio: 194cals
5.0: 45cals and strain 4.2. What the heck? My muscles are so sore after such a session, this cant be ‘just’ 45cals!
Sensor on inside looks awkward.
Felt it too. I was just trying it, wont again. I just want it to work ![]()
Put the Whoop back on my Bicep but still some silly spikes I am seeing. I was one the trainer and could look at my phone and notebook screen.
I snapped these live screenshots at around the same time. Rouvy is using my Garmin Chest strap, next one is Amazfit and third one is Whoop.

Today I wore whoop 5.0 on my forearm (thickest part) and it sorter out almost all cadence lock and measured my heart rate accuratly. The only downside is that I have to expande the wrist strap back and forth when I place it on my forearm and then back to the wrist. But I am happy with the result. Strain was in line with how I felt. On my other wrist I wore Polar V2 and OH1 on my biceps, wich is very accurate.
Sliding up your wrist does improve results but even then you will get the occasional bad result. The bicep for the most part works well but like yesterday it will suddenly throws some wild spikes. I have the MG and I am getting some strange results for BP and it’s a real pain to take an EKG/ECG on the bicep. Ultimately trying to find a good place to wear you whoop shouldn’t be this hard. It should just work on the wrist where it is designed to be placed. I do not expect perfecttion on the wrist but I do expect reasonable results and none of this impossible high spikes I am seeing. There is either a hardware issue or the algorithm is doing something funky to try and calculate HR for different sports. If whoop is going to base all metrics off HR they should make sure it works or give users the option to pair a Chest strap for workouts or allow the results be imported. Allow HR from Garmin would be my choice. The rest of the time Whoop HR is fine, sleep, daily activities etc.
Yes but just sliding upp a few inches doesn’t work for me. It needs to be worn tight on the thickes part of the forearm. As you mentioned, whoop is accurate (somewhat) wearing it on the wrist in everyday life. The struggle for me starts especially when I run. Perhaps I just was lucky today. My runs the last couple of weeks, wearing it on the biceps, has been really bad, and aswell when i was wearing it on my wrist. It has been so bad that my avarage strain level got up with over one point, from 14 to 15 this last month. I suspect the colder weather has something to do with the decreased accuracy. Looking back at my summertraining the accuracy wasn’t this bad. I will continue to wear whoop on my forearm, using the bicep band. Then I don’t have to adjust my wrist band. When I conclude my experience with Whoop 5.0 I am happy with it in everyday life. Especially the data and the ability to really deep dive in my slepp and recovery. I adjust my time in heart rate zones so it is similiar to my OH1-armband. But I haven’t taken the strain so serious day to day, but I look at strain in long term evaluation. I am interested in the MG, due to that I have had problems with afib (done a succeful surgery for that) and blood pressure. I have a real BP-arm sleeve at home but always forget to use it. With the MG I would get the overall trend for my BP and also afib-detection.
I think the thing you will read throughout this forum is HR problems. It is not acceptable that the band needs to be constantly moved around and even then you still get the occasional wild HR. My issues are mostly when exercising.
Garmin writes to Strava and Whoop is connected to Strava. Whoop uses Strava to help with Auto Detect activities. Import the HR from Strava (or other apps) and allow users to choose what HR data to use. It’s so simple and has been suggested to Whoop Support. They are against it because I think it will mean accepting that the Whoop HR accuracy is poor. ![]()
As for MG, ECG/EKG is very accurate. Tested against other devices. In Europe it will alert you to potential AFIB issues but in the US this is disabled for some reason. I just take a reading each morning and if I feel something going on.
BP might be a gimmick. Whilst the values do match the manual recording, you need a BP cuff to do a 3 readings baseline every few weeks. So it might just be trickery to make you think all is good. So I still do a Manual cuff reading each morning. Plus the US FDA has sent a stern letter to Whoop about the BP so might get removed at some point.
Today I did a interval sessio, running 6x3 minutes with 90 sec jog in between. I wore the whoop 5.0 on my forearm, really tight. It was a disaster. Last time I had quite good reading from whoop on my forearm. Now I am thinking of just wear it on my wrist through all activitys no matter what. Biceps, forearm or wrist, it doesent matter. It measures cadence lock for 20 minutes or so anyway. Strain get’s then 2-3 point to high. I will wear it on my wrist and forget about strain day to day, just looking at long term trends.
That is my experience, I move it and get a good result, think I have cracked it and then boom, another awful reading. I went for a gravel ride yesterday. The whoop was horrendous, Average 102, Max 175. Chest strap and Amazfit were almost identical. I am convinced Whoops issues are caused by vibration. Gravel rides are pretty bumpy.
Top is a chest strap, bottom right Amazfit Helio strap, bottom left Whoop ![]()
Interstlingly, the amazfit seems to do a much better job than whoop. Still it is much cheaper and doesn’t comes with a subscription. I think Whoop must change their business idea and the way they charges their customers. Still, while I am frustrated with the unacceracy of the Whoop, I am still very satisfied with everthing else with Whoop (not their subscription model). But it would be a dream if Whoop could in some way really increase the accuracy.
I am the opposite, super disappointed with Whoop. I had good conversations with the Whoop team but that has dried up since they are not fixing the issues and are now ignoring my emails. Sad really because after meeting with them I had high hopes things would be sorted out. But alas that is not the case. I stick around to see if they will address because I have paid for a year up front and can’t get a refund. Another poor decision, lock users into a poor experience. But all I see is more and more people complaining and some are settling for an inferior product. I am hearing Whoop 4 is miles better than Whoop 5. The biggest bug bear is Whoop team are saying nothing, plowing ahead with new updates/features but not addressing the problems. I see they are sponsoring the Cyclocross on HBO. Wish these Athletes would speak out…
