ECG Not Working

Hi @AlanGooner Thanks for the hack, tried it thrice didn’t work for me. I even wiped the device with a soft cloth in case of any dust particles etc. It is a frustrating issue. I hope Whoop has a solution for this asap. Thanks again :slightly_smiling_face:

Seems like bad devices at this point. Mine has worked fine for the most part, aside from the time it was wet. Thought it worth a shot to eliminate the band.

Hey @boinher I am sorry about that experience that is exactly how I felt when I unboxed my Whoop on Day 1 and the ECG just would not work. A friend was kind enough to give me a brand new SportFlex band to use to see if my band was the issue. It worked for about a week then stopped. I had so much back and forth with Whoop support. I was also about to cancel my membership, in frustration. The return cost for me was too expensive as I am outside the US. Decided to just bite the bullet and keep it. It is so frustrating considering no timelines, not sure if its the hardware or the firmware that’s the issue. Definitely not the strap because I unboxed a brand new one and tried it. Very diluted experience for me as a first time user. I told a family friend not to bother upgrading from the 4.0 to the MG it’s a waste of money. Just get the Peak if at all. Which is what I will pay for when I decide to renew my membership if this issue continues. Not paying $359 for a hit and miss ECG function. R&D + Product development should have taken their time on this function. It is buggy, its frustrating. I hope eventually your ECG works. Good Luck

Hey Esha, so i’ve been going back and forth with “support” (really someone who does not know basic English nor grammar) in my email. The support agent stated " I am sorry for this issue, but please note that he Whoop need to calibrate for at least 3 weeks that is the reason why it is not working at the moment"

So 1) they assumed the gender of my Whoop - wrong!
2) ECG needs 3 weeks of data before it can give me a reading??? what does that even mean. I go through calibration and multiple 30sec scans. BPM during these reading are extremely off - even comparing to the BPM they give outside of ECG - its about 3x high in ECG “mode” ..

What a horrible product and customer service is an incompetent. This is for my health and they just beat around the bush…

I just purchased a Whoop 5 Life $359, solely for the ECG functions. I just opened it and have spent 90 minutes trying to get my first reading. I have updated it, unpaired it, cleaned the sensors (though they are brand new and clean), switched wrists, nothing is working and I continue to get “ECG Reading Failed”. What i do notice when doing the reading is my bpm is 2-3x what the whoop is reading in the bpm screen ~50-60bpm… So the bpm side is reading fine until it tried ECG.

This is extremely frustrating paying a premium for this designated feature yet it does not work! Does anyone have some recommendations? This is extremely aggravating.

Mine is dong the same. I have been through 2 MG devices and they don’t work. I’m in the US. It always gives an error. It says reading failed. I have tried loose, tight, and not so tight. I have tried it in both wrist and one inch and two inches above wrist bone. I have tried wiping off the device with a microfiber towel and with moist fingers as someone suggested. I can never get a reading. I have a whoop 5.0 MG. I have sent about 35 emails and it still has never been resolved. It has to be some bug as I read a lot of people it worked at first until the last firmware update.

If you not seeing this in mass issues it’s probably because people aren’t checking it. Obviously, there are dozens of reports on this post it is not working. Is there a bug?

It is aggravating paying for something you are not getting like me, ECG.

@carpunky94 This issue seems to be happening to quite a few of us who have purchased the Life MG and so far no update from Whoop. It’s very disappointing. They need to resolve this ASAP.

@boinher Try and call Whoop if you are in the US instead of emails? I called when I unboxed mine 2 weeks ago, despite being outside of the US. I was extremely frustrated. I didn’t get a solid response except that the Product team is looking into the issue, no timelines given. I gave up checking for the moment, it gives me anxiety. I got the MG primarily for medical reasons, however I don’t see the benefit of a premium subscription at the moment without the ECG function.

I have this exact problem as well. I tried all the suggestions but it makes no difference.

It sits on the 'the ecg will begin momentarily ’ sceeen displaying hold for 30 seconds and never moves beyond this point. Only way out is to hit cancel.

Also have this issue. I have tried everything, different bands, wrists, tight, loose, tight grip, loose grip, cleaning, etc. it never works. I see no added value in the 5.0 when weighing the troubles vs small improvements

Decided to try again today and hoped it would work. It actually unpaired itself despite being at 50% battery life so strange.

And then I decided to try the ECG it gave me the a different error this time:

Still didn’t work and there are dozens of reports on this post where this not working for others.

I tried all the suggestions and even received a new whoop 5.0 mg. Still won’t read it.

That’s ridiculous. Hearing that is reason enough for me not to renew my MG membership. I’m not getting any benefit out of the premium tier.

I ran into the problem just today. I did loosen my band recently for 2mm or less. So I try to tighten it back up and seems able to record the ECG finally. But I think it doesn’t make sense that it need to be so tight to actually get the reading. My Apple Watch Ultra can read ECG much easier.

This is the same for me too! I’ve not been able to get it to work at all.

I am also having the same issue with a brand new MG. I get to the calibrating stage then it reverts back to the start page. I have gone through the guides and have tried all of the suggestions on this thread and none have worked consistently. I managed to get a couple of readings yesterday but now the function does not work again. I never had these issues with my aging Apple Watch.

Are there any theories from the tech team whether this is likely to be a hardware issue or software?

Overall, it’s pretty disappointing as this is my first time using whoop. I am currently considering returning the item and looking for an alternative.
