ECG Not Working

Hi @Durkin
Done exactly what you suggested in fact I switched my band to the MG SportFlex band, it was working just fine for a couple of days and now its back to giving me the same error. I have also been in touch with support, who mentioned it has been escalated to the Product team to look into this issue. However, no timeline into the resolution of the issue, it is very frustrating because we are paying a premium for the Life membership and encountering constant issues with this function is disappointing. We need a permanent solution.

Thanks,
Esha

Also have this issue.

This morning I had a hell of a time to get it to work. 5 or 6 attempts and gave up. This has happened one time before. What I noticed this time was the strap and device were wet. I showered and forgot to take it off. I waited a while and it worked. I just took another one and it worked first time. It could be moisture is affecting the reading or my device is about to fail

The only time I was able to get a successful ECG reading was the first day I got the MG. Since then it keeps failing. I have tried every wrist position all amounts of pressure and nothing. Please help! My heart could be ready to pop and o wouldn’t know

@Heavywaite85 Are you still seeing this issue or has it been working for you well over the past week?

I think we are good to go. Thanks to you all for the very good customer service. Looking forward to the relationship with Whoop. Good to know there is support if needed. Good example of getting what you pay for. :folded_hands:

Thank you

Just got my MG and the ECG Keeps failing. At first it was not even registering me touching it, then it started calibrating, but every take ends up failing. What can I do? :face_without_mouth:

Same here. First time worked. Tried it probably 10 other times since I bought it and it fails every time. Not moving or talking, fingers placed correctly. Pretty silly.

Hi all,

I’m really sorry to hear your ECG isn’t cooperating. I know how frustrating and disruptive that can be. Our support team recently published enhanced troubleshooting steps that may help resolve the issue more quickly. You can find them in this article:

ECG: Data Accuracy & Best Practices

I recommend walking through these steps, and if reading continues to fail, let us know.

Thanks for your patience, and let us know if you continue to have trouble.

Hello @liv0

I have a Garmin Epix Pro with ECG, this mornings Whoops failure was proceeded by a perfect Garmin reading. Now the Garmin crown of the watch is titanium and connected to the watch permanently. The Whoop is connected by two tiny pins and is not permanent. So this can obviously lead to a poor connection if over time the device is removed and reattached. It could also be that it is not connecting properly because of the strap, so maybe a faulty strap.

I believe my issue this morning was related to a damp band or clasp but again the Garmin had no such issues and that was equally as wet. Now for other devices, I am not sure this makes any sense, the connection is via fingers to clasp and I really can’t see how another bluetooth or wifi device will affect this, it certainly didn’t affect my Garmin.

The weak point seems to be the two tiny pins connecting the strap to the whoop it’s self, if wet or dirty or just not aligned properly I can see this is an area that could causes problems. Users might have issues because the strap is not fixed correctly or is out of tolerance. It seems very easy to bend the clasp also, so perhaps causes a misalignment.

This is not meant in any way as criticism just my thoughts.

Not working for me and I am on my second MG. Out of about 50-60 attempts on both worst on myself and my wife I got to work 2 times. After that never another reading. I don’t know what to do. Now I have to send this first one back, box it up and ship it and it wasn’t even the issue if this is a bug. I may ask to see if I can get a refund.

So this is a bug? I’m on my second mg thinking it was the device.

That doesn’t work for me. I’m on my second MG and no readings.

Hi @carp70,

I’m sorry the ECG still isn’t working. One of our specialized representatives will reach out shortly via your account email to walk through next steps.

Small update / rant:
I’ve given up. I contacted support to downgrade my LIFE subscription to a PEAK one. I assumed this would be a quick and straightforward process—just switch the subscription type and refund the difference. Unfortunately, I was wrong.

Apparently, this isn’t possible. Instead, I have to return the Whoop MG, get a refund (minus the surprisingly high shipping costs for such a small item), and then place a new order with the PEAK subscription. I honestly don’t understand how this makes sense. It’s frustrating for the customer and anything but environmentally friendly.

I get that product launches can come with challenges, but at this point, I feel like a paying beta tester for a company whose support has been far from accommodating.

I mean, this product isn’t exactly cheap—and so far, I’m rather disappointed. The cherry on top was the mandatory step during registration, where users are forced to enter credit card details for a future subscription renewal, even though I haven’t even started testing the product yet. Nothing says customer-first experience like asking for payment info before letting you try the product :-1:

PS: Still waiting for my RMA :eyes:

Hi @liv0

I am experiencing the same issues listed above with the MG tried everything from a change of strap to following ALL the steps given in the link you shared nothing works. The last email I received from Support was to make sure my firmware is up to date. It is, I check every other day for an update. My last successful ECG reading was on 18th June 2025.
The final email I received from Whoop support was on 25th June 2025 saying my ā€œWe are closing this request for now, but rest assured, we are working on this issue, and you should expect to see improvements very soonā€.

It is not reassuring at all. No tentative timeline? What is the actual issue?
I would also like to hear from a specialised rep on the next steps. As a first time Whoop user, I am very disappointed. The back and forth is frustrating.

Thanks,
Esha

To eliminate the strap as the issue have tried unclipping the strap, Place Thumb and Forefinger on the pins and the pointer finger on the whoop to push down to the skin. This worked for me when I got the strap wet and couldn’t get a good reading.

Hey Esha!

I also am unable to take an ECG reading on my BRAND NEW OUT OF THE BOX WHOOP 5 MG. I spent $359 and right out of the box for the past 90 mins I have been troubleshooting, updating, cleaning (though its brand new), and not work! Absolute piece of crap.

I know it is messed up as during my ECG reading it puts my bpm nearly 2x what its own sensors are reading under the heart rate tab… what a joke! Have you had any luck? I am going to return it within 2hrs of opening if I cannot find my issue
