Hi Whoop team,
I can tell with utter confidence that Whoop underestimates kcals heavily.
Everything that is not a heavy workout session is heavily underestimated in terms of kcal expenditure. Light workouts or light movements such as walks are not taken into account almost at all. Please fix this as reliable kcal expenditure is very important.
I hope that I will not have to switch back to apple watch or other fitness tracker device.
It’s atrocious isn’t it? I’m extremely petite and I find it extremely difficult to navigate nutrition and burn. Whoop is definitely under reporting.
Please see below for things I have been sending Whoop for multiple days. I keep getting terrible responses. For context my base BMR is 1,750. Email I sent them below. This has been a long chain.
I feel like my calorie score during my incline walking workouts are good. They are way off during weightlifting. Maybe the bicep band will help with those. But the underlying issue is the calories Whoop counts the rest of day. I will include some detailed stats for yesterday. My day included a long incline walk and lots of other random outdoor activity (yard work) etc. Whoop only gave me calories for only my workout and basically my base BMR for the rest of the day. Impossible to be close to correct. It should have been about 2,900 calories.
My day stats on Whoop for 7/26
Calories: 2,253
Walking activity calories burned: 586
Steps: 16,607 (only 50% came from my walking activity)
Day Strain: 13.3
So let’s think about that. My base BMR is 1,750. As I have pointed out in multiple emails in the past. So 2,353 calories minus 1,750 BMR calories, equals 603 calories. My walking activity was 586 calories. So think about how bad Whoop is. For the rest of my day Whoop only gave me 20 calories above my base BMR. Base BMR is basically only what it takes your body to exist. With no additional activity. Yesterday I did another 8,000+ steps outside my walking activity. I was working outside, etc. This is absolutely ridiculous how bad Whoop is. Please think about those numbers. How is that even close to possible? How is Whoop going to fix their algorithm for these ridiculously bad numbers?
Sorry for posting the above in two chains. I just feel Whoop is not doing anything to fix this. I think I have sent four detailed/very long emails to the support team. The responses are always very generic. Feels like I’m talking to AI. Frustrating. This is a serious issue, and can cause a serious health episode if uninformed people are using it to manage calorie intake. It is destroying the product for me.
Hey, thanks for posting your exp!
You are indeed talking to the AI; i’ve recently raised the issue around inflated Strain calculated via the Strength Training with their “Customer Service”; it’s been a totally unproductive back-and-forth conversation, which took me few messages to actually figure out there’s a small note in the footer which tells it is an AI.
I plan to keep Whoop for a month or two more and if i see 0 improvements i will probably replace it with Cirqa or even fitbit air with bevel.
Does Whoop team even have Customer Service? Worst Customer exp i’ve seen across all products.
