Strain Has dropped significantly

Hello,

I upgraded my whoop to 5.0 life and my strain levels have gone down drastically.

Saturday the 13th I ran for 2 hours, lifted weights for 30 minutes before playing soccer for another 1 hour 45 mins and my strain didn’t even reach 20. That’s just amazing, isnt it? I dont think that’s true. I have been wearing whoop for the over 3 years now and I don’t think that’s correct.

Any suggestions or should we turn in our whoop 5.0Life back.

Thanks,

Gaurav

Hey @Gaurav81,

Thank you for sharing those details! After upgrading to WHOOP 5.0, some members notice their Strain levels appear lower than expected, especially after intense activities. Here are a few important points that may explain what you’re experiencing:

  • WHOOP 5.0 uses improved motion filtering, which can reduce transient Strain spikes compared to previous versions.

  • After upgrading, recalibration may take up to 2–4 weeks for Strain tracking to fully adjust and reflect your true effort.

  • Strain is calculated based on sustained heart rate elevation. If there are short breaks or inconsistent heart rate levels during your activities, your Strain score may be lower than expected.

  • Strain is measured on a logarithmic scale, so reaching higher Strain numbers (like 20+) requires exponentially more effort.

Sorry but I dont think its correct. If running 20k and then playing more sports doesnt get you to a strain level of 20 then what does? Ran 17k yesterday in 1 hour 25 mins didnt get me to a strain level what 25 minutes of gym workout got me to so I am not sure if this is accurate. That too I had to key in the information and the strain level was over 12 which I feel is not correct.

However, its your product and I dont want to argue with you on this but ask can I return it? If I can’t, I am done with whoop.

Thanks,
Gaurav
