I believe my WHOOP is not counting my steps accurately. I’ve noticed repeated discrepancies between my actual walking and the step count shown in the app. For example, on days when I walk significantly more than usual, the step count still appears low or does not update as expected.
Troubleshooting I’ve already tried:
Rebooted/reset the WHOOP device from the app
Confirmed Bluetooth connection and that the device is syncing
Worn WHOOP consistently during the day
Current setup:
Device: WHOOP 5.0
Wear location: Left wrist, worn snugly one finger-width above the wrist bone
Phone: Smartphone with the WHOOP app installed
WHOOP app is updated to the latest version available for my device/OS
Additional context for comparison:
On February 21, 22, and 23, I was with a friend the whole time. We were together for the majority of the day and doing the same walking. He was also wearing a WHOOP device on his right wrist, and I was wearing mine on my left wrist.
The difference seems to be around 5,000 steps. My whoop is showing 5k steps less than the actual numbers
I as well have seen this. I wear Whoop and also a Galaxy Watch 8. The different in steps on an average day is around 5K steps. If I am on my feet all day moving, then the delta between the two is much more narrow. It seems to be capturing certain movements as steps, or not understanding stride elements or something.
Im seeing the same issue. Whoop 4.0 and Whoop 5.0/MG seem to way under estimate step count. I went for a 1 mile walk outside to see how it was tracked as an activity and the step count was 300.
Yeah, Whoop is quite awful for step counting, which is ironic that they factor steps into your Healthspan and “Whoop age.” At the end of the day, there is usually a minimum difference of 2000 steps between my Samsung watch and my Whoop, with Whoop undercounting every time.
The step counting works very well for me. Today I compared the 5.0 MG with my Garmin X1 during a running workout and the difference was no more than 20-30 steps. I was wearing the device on a biceps strap.
