would make difference in calculating the muscular load If I am doing e.g. 50reps of Wallball in set of 10s or enter them as one set of 50 reps of set of 5 with 10reps each?
Hey @salkharji,
Great question! Here’s how WHOOP calculates muscular load for strength-based activities like wall balls:
-
Muscular load is based on the total volume (sets × reps × weight), intensity, and exercise type you log in the Strength Trainer.
-
Whether you enter 50 reps as one set, five sets of 10, or ten sets of 5, the total muscular load calculation will be very similar as long as the total reps and weight are the same.
-
However, splitting reps into more sets (e.g., 10 sets of 5) may slightly affect the calculation if you log rest periods, as the app tracks set duration and rest, which can influence perceived intensity and session structure.
-
The most important thing is to accurately log your sets, reps, and weights. WHOOP’s Strength Trainer uses this info, plus sensor data, to estimate your muscular load and integrate it into your total Strain score.
So, for wall balls: 50 reps in one set, five sets of 10, or ten sets of 5 (with the same weight) will yield nearly the same muscular load, unless you take long rests or change intensity between sets.
