Fading 5.0 Band

I got my 5.0 right when it came out. I have the Obsidian Superknit band. It is turning brownish in the sun. Definitely no longer black on the top and inside. This never happened with the 4.0 band. Anyone else experience this?

Yes. I noticed my band is turning a brownish copper color.

Yes, exactly. Copperish is a good way to describe it. Disappointing considering it is so new. I suppose I will have to get another color.

Hi @skyhighifly and @rob1974. Thanks for writing in. Would you mind attaching a picture of the band? I haven’t heard of this happening, and I want to get a better look. Is it the cloth that’s turning copperish or the metal or both? Let me know. Thanks!

Definitely shows more in the sun.

The black band with my 5.0 has begun to do exactly the same thing as well. This photo I took with the bottom side (left) turned next to the top side (right). The top side is more noticeably brownish, which maybe suggest that it’s fading from the sun.

I am having the same issue.

I’m having the exact same issue - I’ve used whoop 3,4 and now 5 and never had this problem with straps in the past. I’ve messaged whoop support and waiting to hear back. I always get new bands eventually over time but I feel like I’m being prematurely forced into it due to poor quality materials which is disappointing.

I have a green and original black band. Both are fading :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Experiencing the same issue.

Same thing with mine, not an issue I had with the 4, but really frustrating because of how noticeable it is. I’ve got the MG and the band looks really old after just a few months. Will Whoop replace it or are they going to make me pay $90 for another one only to have it browned out by Christmas?

Same issue, less pronounced than the photos here.

Yes! I’m having the same issue! mine now look horrible and faded from the sun.

Mine has also done this…

Turning a brown copper colour.

I did a ticket and the first response was basically that I’m not cleaning it properly and I probably got sunblock on it or something else which caused the discoloration. I was told I could purchase a replacement and try a different fabric. The discoloration continues to get worse and I referenced this thread as proof this is a widespread issue. The discoloration just continues to get worse.

Mine looks just like the pictures. Because I cycle a lot and the left side is mostly pointing up on the ride is fade more. But for support to try blame you is ridiculous. Shame on them for going elsewhere for the bands and not testing properly. :man_facepalming:

Everyone should start sending in a complaint and requesting replacement. The representative on here who asked for pictures hasn’t done a thing since they were posted.

After much back and forth, the verdict is….

  • I’ve had my band for over 90 days so warranty doesn’t apply.
  • I was offered a 15% discount on a replacement.
  • Discoloration was blamed on me. Whoop takes no responsibility for the defect.

If you submit a complaint feel free to reference my case number. 04401200 Good luck.

That is such a lame answer. Discoloration is obviously through sun exposure. I wear my Whoop on my left wrist. The left side of the bad is faded badly and the right side is still black. As a cyclist this makes total sense, the left side of my wrist is pointing up and is more exposed to the sun than the right side. It’s 100% bleached by the sun and I would assume Whoop know it but at $60 a strap refund they are going to be in panic mode and just hope people do not complain. I see a class action lawsuit coming for them Faded Bands, ECG/EKG not working, HR issues etc. Whoop 5/MG seems to have been released without much testing otherwise these issues would have been spotted.

This is becoming such a terrible situation in all aspects.
