I got mine exactly when it came out as well and it faded Brown. They should be giving us a brand new one. This is ridiculous. How can we get a response from someone whoâs capable of getting this done?
Hi everyone, thank you for the posts and pictures. Very, very helpful.
You all are right. Those black bands look like they are fading brown. Weâre dedicating resources to actively investigate this on our end to ensure this doesnât remain a problem.
For everyone thatâs posted on this thread, weâve collected your info and if you have an existing case, weâll follow up with you shortly. If you havenât filed a case with support yet, thatâs ok, too. Wehave a member of the team email you and make this right.
For anyone that is visiting this thread in the future - if you believe youâre having this issue, please shoot us an email at support@whoop.com to get taken care of.

Any body elseâs band turn brown? Only had it a couple of weeks. I work outside so get a bit of sun exposure but not sure this is right?
Hi, is there anyone that experienced some unexpected discolouring in the new whoop 5.0 wristband while in the sun? It turns brownish and looks kind of grim. Also, the new 5.0 detects activities upward of 19.0 strain (heartrate 180+ for 4 hours) while traveling. Especially on the boat or hilly car rides. Let me know if there is any way to wash/prevent the discolouring and wrongful activity detection?
I have two bands Black original and Green. I think both are starting to fade.
Thank you all for looking into this and making it right!
FYI: My black has faded but I also believe the green one I have is starting to fade also. So might not just be the black band..
Alan
Much appreciated Durkin!
I have also emailed support and they talked about cleaning it and whatnot. Ive been a whoop member from the beginning and this new strap quality clearly has gone way downhill. And pair that with the 7% smaller form factor so I cant even use my other more expensive bands that I purchased. Talk about irritating. I just upgraded to the 5.0 and my 4.0 black strap never faded even after years of use. This one its been mere months. This may be the straw that breaks the camels back if Whoop doesnt take any action with resolving this. And NOT blaming this on not cleaning the strap when its on 24/7 and showered with as well with the same products that were used when using the 4.0 straps.
I emailed support and their response was to clean the metal hardware. Not sure how that will fix the fabric discoloration.
I have the same issue and this is the response I got. If they do not replace it, I will be cancelling whoop as this is terrible customer service as it is truly a manufacturing defect.
WHOOP bands are made from a micro-filament yarn thatâs designed to be durable and breathable, but over time normal exposure to sweat, soap, sunscreen, and UV light can cause dark colors to lighten. Because this type of fading is considered normal cosmetic wear, it isnât covered under our warranty.
Hi @MarkAH, thanks for the note. I just connected with our support team internally on this. A member from our team will be in touch. Stay tuned. ![]()
I thought it looked cool and only ever thought of it as like a hidden feature / badge of honor for being out in the sun a lot. If someoneâs didnât turn this really intriguing and pretty color Iâd guess they didnât actually use it outside (lame). Surprising to see all the anger and demands lol (also lame).
Thanks Durkin for your support
Youâre welcome!
Have a good rest of your day.
Same here. Took about a month to start discoloring. Didnât happen with my 4.0 band.
Same issue here. Do we need to purchase a new one (that fixes the issue permanently)
or will it be replaced?
submit a support request and send them the details and pic, they will give you a promo code for a new band. Whoop Support
I am having the same issue - my band is now brown!!!
