Why I cancelled my whoop subscription

I am writing this because the boxes in the survey of the whoop subscription cancellation was too short to put in everything I had to say. I’d like to write this as feedback for the appropriate teams, to bring attention to the aspects that led to my cancellation of my subscription.

I was a huge fan of my Whoop 4.0 before I lost it in early 2025. I contacted support, which I was then directed to purchase a $50 replacement strap. Sadly, this occurred right before the 5.0 strap launched. Had I known the 5.0 strap would launch soon, I would have waited for it. My wish is that support had told me that I had the option to order a replacement strap, or to wait for the upcoming updated band launch for the newest features. This also occurred as I began a study abroad in China, preventing me from easily acquiring a new 5.0 band.

Additionally, the replacement band I ordered was extremely low quality. The strap did not have a working locking mechanism which caused it to constantly slide off itself. The sensors were also incorrect; many times, I would go on car or subway rides, and the whoop would measure something absurd, like a 3 hour workout with a 260+bpm the entire time. It would throw off the accuracy of my entire health profile and it felt extremely difficult to delete or clarify this information in the software.

Even when I began taking off the strap during car rides, it would still measure a workout just from the vibrations, even though it was not attached to my wrist. This led to me not trusting the measurements or health reports of my app at all.

My wish is that during my support session when I had originally lost my 4.0 strap, I wish that the person responding to my email could have informed me of the option to wait for the 5.0 strap to come out. And, I wish that the quality assurance for the 4.0 replacement strap was better, so that I wouldn’t have to deal with this malfunctioning strap for now the majority of my whoop experience.

Due to this, I decided to cancel my whoop subscription. Once I am back in the United States, I will consider whether to start a Whoop 5.0 subscription, or if I will switch to an Oura ring.
