After exercise more often than not Whoop asks me where I am wearing the band. Why would that be needed, why does it matter? Are they changing the algorithm based on body location? I find this behavior very strange! ![]()
Hi @AlanGooner, great question!
WHOOP may ask where the device was worn after certain activities because wear location can affect motion data. When movement patterns suggest the device may not have been worn on the wrist (for example, during strength training or when using WHOOP Body apparel), the app may prompt you to confirm placement so the activity can be interpreted accurately. For example, improving autodetection.
This is expected behavior and doesn’t mean there’s an issue with your device or your workout, as WHOOP supports being worn in multiple locations, and the data doesn’t change based on body location ![]()
Then you have just verified my concerns. Why does it matter where I wear the device, if you are saying it’s for auto-detection of activity then maybe this is ok. But that still doesn’t make a lot of sense, if you are asking where I wore the device, I am in the screen that says cycling, running, or tell me what it is, what at that point why do you also need the location of the band. Are you sure you are not changing things based on oh you are doing weight lifting I will jump in to the weight lifting part of the algorithm, or cycling or running or walking etc? I am a little confused as to why location matters at all.
Hi @AlanGooner ! Our workout activity detection and algorithms do not factor in the wear location (I was corrected on my understanding of usage for autodetection while looking into this). We may, at some point, use this information, though there are no imminent updates or a need to incorporate the strap location. Filling out this information is optional.
