Whoop MG moved to Bicep permanently 🤔

Whoop MG seems to suggest in the documentation that it needs to be on the wrist for ECG/EKG and BP monitoring. I just put the MG on my bicep and to my surprise the ECG/EKG worked. Now if BP works tonight I’ll be interested in the results of this new location. A lot say on here that bicep works better for workouts and cycling. I was not interested in changing from wrist to bicep and back again to wrist. But if MG works on my bicep then maybe just maybe all isn’t lost. I certainly can’t fade the band when it’s under my shirt :wink:

Todays ride for 1:02mins at a moderate pace 18.2mph gave me a strain score of 20 :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Let’s see if the bicep helps coz the wrist is pretty crappy.

:blush:

Whoop Bicep band doesn’t have the indents for ECG/EKG but still works fine, so why does Whoop MG have a special band when it’s not required? @evanatwhoop @Durkin

Bicep since yesterday afternoon. Sleep, HRV & BP insights worked fine. Check ECG first thing without a problem. Today’s ride HR looked way better and this could be a new start for whoop. Still puzzled as to why Whoop wants the MG be on the wrist if the Bicep band works. I am also unsure why there is a Special MG band with indents for ECG which doesn’t seem it’s needed either.

Yes the bicep placement improves metrics but it’s still not where it should be. I also noticed it with the ECG. I know you’re cycling a lot so maybe you found your ideal set up now. As a multi sport athlete it’s difficult. They will send a new sensor to me now. But I highly doubt it will solve the problem for me. It’s a software issue. Good luck for you. I keep on following your posts because I’m curious :rofl:

I think it will help with cycling. But I doubt the other issues will be resolved. HRV spikes have happened to others which suggests an issue with software. They have said that they will look to not include outlier results. I still cannot see how I went from 20 to 160 overnight twice. If they solve that I need them not to handle HRV average as a percentage. Low numbers are adversely affected by small point changes. My last wish is to fix the steps count and steps logic being so important. 16k steps for someone my age is not achievable and potentially bad for me. For my age 64 I should be around 7k at most and with cycling maybe less. I have a chance to get close to that. My whoop age is 1.9 years + because I can’t come close to 16k.

Since this is supposed to be a sports orientated device then have an area when you select your main sports and have whoop adjust metrics accordingly.. Whoop 5 is more like a general fitness band like some low end Fitbit’s.

Best of luck with the new device but I too doubt it will resolve the issues.

Sh*t just when I thought my troubles were behind me. Moving to bicep seemed to be working but now today it thinks I’m straining at over 20+ when it was a moderate ride. Same place on bicep, same tightness, stupid results. I can’t get into the 200, let alone maintain that for long periods of time. I just can’t take this anymore. Whoop are not responding :face_with_symbols_on_mouth:

Garmin

Whoop 5/MG HR is pitiful. Please whoop start talking.

Whoop you are selling a defective product and not offering refunds. Fix or refund :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Sitting trying to relax but 68bpm shows I’m still frustrated :face_with_tongue:

But Garmin and Whoop are the same so maybe it really is software related. I see lots of people complain that highs during lifting weights are not being recognized, could Whoop be trying to manipulate the data thinking you are doing one sport when you are doing another. I really don’t get these high spikes in HR when doing normal stuff, showering or washing my bike. Starting to think whoops issue is data manipulation. If so it’s an easy fix, turn it off and count the heart beats :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Whoop is highly accurate for cycling :rofl:

Hey @AlanGooner,

Thanks for reporting! I’ll route this into the team to take a look.

@ncipollo

I did exactly the same route as yesterday but with a much harder effort. 18.2mph average v 21.1mph average. My Garmin reflects the extra effort with an average HR of 136 which matches Whoops but some crazy high spikes with whoop. Well over 200 which is really not achievable for me. That said outside the wild spikes the HR didn’t look too bad compared to Garmin. It is certainly better than yesterday.

I am at a loss as to why this happening. I really thought the bicep was going to be good.

We are all at a loss as to what is happening. I hope whoop are reading this thread and seeing how many people are suffering. I have no tips because I had some good days but last 2 have been awful. Hoping whoop changed something which has broken the HR but they are not telling us. All we get is try another location and make sure it’s tight.

Hey @AlanGooner ,

Thanks for the additional data point. I’ll make sure our signal processing folks take a look.

Couple of things..

Many over the last few days are seeing this, anything change? Up until yesterday the bicep was working much better, but the strange spikes are wild. I am seeing people on a much newer Firmware than mine at 50.32.1.0 and when I check it says up to date.

@ncipollo

Same ride again today but this time I have a perfect match to Garmin. So in the last 3 days I have ridden the exact same ride, easy, moderate and hard paced. Today’s ride was the easy ride. Most of my rides are a slow steady pace and this might explain why the HR has been looking good. The issue appears to be when I go hard and I thought of a possible reason. Fast paced rides I am in the dropped handlebar position, this means my body is almost horizontal. When I ride easy my hands on the top of the bars and I’m in a more vertical position. It really shouldn’t matter what position I am in but is whoop doing something in the background trying to compensate for it thinking I’m doing another sport?

Perfect match with an easy upright position ride.

I made a similar experience. When I ride on aerobars for a long time and easy pace heart rate is more accurate. It’s still off compared to my chest strap but not so completely off as the other workouts. Still not a satisfying solution though.

Garmin and Whoop today are scarily similar. If I didn’t know better I would have sworn Whoop imported from Garmin. :thinking:

But all these HR issues could easily be solved by allowing us to choose where HR comes from per activity. They import data from Garmim/Strava so why not get it all; HR, Pace, Power, Cadence, Stride, Distance. It seems such a simple solution :slight_smile:

This is hilarious but probably why whoop is struggling. I was at the grocery store, it would seem these auto detect activities are the problem. No way my HR was that high :rofl:
