Whoop MG - More awake time

My Whoop MG is distorting my sleep metrics. It is showing I am awake far more than I actually am.

Hi @RB1323, thanks for the note. Mind sending over an example with a screenshot of what you’re seeing? Would be great to get a little more detail on this so I can try to help you out.

See attached from last night.

But it has been inaccurate since I upgraded which is very disappointing. Up until now, I have been a huge advocate of Whoop.

Thanks for reaching out and sharing your experience—I’m sorry to hear that your sleep data hasn’t felt accurate since upgrading. We understand how frustrating that can be.

To clarify, our sleep staging algorithm was updated prior to the launch of the WHOOP 5.0 device in February and has been internally validated on this new generation of hardware. That said, based on your report, it does sound like you may be experiencing an issue with sleep staging given the unusually high amount of awake time being reported.

In order for us to dig deeper into what might be going on, we’d need to review your underlying data. When you have a moment, please reach out to our Support team at support@whoop.com so we can investigate further and help get this resolved.

Thanks again for bringing this to our attention, and we appreciate your continued support.

Hi, I’m highjacking this thread as I agree with the gentleman, as it’s useless to have double or triple threads.

Before posting here I also contacted support directly to tell them the MG / app algorithm is seriously messing up my sleep patterns recording.

I’ve been using various monitors to see which one is the most accurate (auto sleep, oura ring, etc), and their solution was « always my fault » as in not wearing it properly, I should try the biceps band, put it tighter, etc. But never pointing fingers to Whoops algorithm. I checked with my friends who have the 4 and 5 and they wear it exactly like I do.

Now that being said. Let me expose the issue :

  • when I go to bed I fall asleep very fast (5-10mins)
  • I don’t scroll, I shut my phone off, etc for obvious reasons.
  • I even, for the last days start to record manually my sleep (activity - sleep) to see how it would work.
  • I wake up and stop the recording
  • the setting is under « improve sleep »

Compared to the Apple Watch and for exemple AutoSleep app (which is the most accurate) Whoop records way less sleep thus messes up my recovery projections, etc..
It’s becoming ridiculous how bad it is. It says I need 10h of sleep… like who after 50 years old sleeps that long unless sick? I average 7h-8h, under 6:45 I can feel the difference, but slightly in my sports, focus etc.
Even when I manually set the hours it doesn’t take it in consideration.
I can’t even change the settings at what time
I want to go to sleep.

Here are various screenshots. As you see AutoSleep is more precise and records them correctly.

Ah… apparently I can’t add more than one screenshot. Shame.

Here is the screenshot from AutoSleep

I totally agree. Have exactly the same “problem”. Wake time is almost never under 2 hours. With this data being so incorrect, it makes the WHOOP almost useless, when improving your sleep is the main goal. And now with the MG it really has become worse.
