Whoop 4.0 trial, can I upgrade to 5.0?

Hi guys, I chose a 5.0 Peak trial membership and got sent a 4.0 device, a lot of the online guidance has me a bit confused.

If I continue into Peak membership at the end of the trial period without changing anything, from what I have read I don’t get a 5.0 device right?

If I upgrade to 5.0 via the app before my trial finishes (1st September). From what I’ve read it doesn’t make it clear as everything says I need to purchase a 12 month subscription before it ends, and I was going to do that anyway so do I get charged twice?

Hi there! Great questions – the trial process can definitely be confusing.

Here’s how it works:

  • If you do nothing: When your trial ends, your membership continues as WHOOP Peak, but you’ll keep using your current WHOOP 4.0 device. You *don’t* get a 5.0 automatically.
  • If you want a WHOOP 5.0: During your trial, the only way to get the 5.0 is by purchasing a 12-month membership extension in the app before your trial ends. There isn’t a separate “upgrade fee” option available while you’re on trial, you’ll need to do the extension.
  • Will you be charged twice? Nope! If you upgrade before your trial ends, the 12-month extension will start right after your trial finishes (it doesn’t overlap), so you’re just prepaying for your first year, not being double-billed.
  • Do you need to return your device? No. If you upgrade to 5.0, you keep your 4.0 (and can gift it to a friend). Your data stays with you.

To upgrade: open the WHOOP app, navigate to “Membership” and follow the prompts under “Upgrade.” Hope this clears things up!
