What’s going on here?

Exact same walk. Start/stop same time.

Whoop recording steps = 7,628
iPhone recording steps = 9,248

Whoop calories = 240
Strava calories = 763

Heart rate for both walks coming from Whoop MG. Whoop and Strava both have my correct weight and height.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

Calorie estimation from wearable devices, including WHOOP, can have limitations. These estimates rely heavily on heart rate data and proprietary algorithms that account for factors like weight, height, age, and intensity — but they may not always align perfectly with other platforms.

Step counts can also vary between devices depending on how movement is detected and classified. Different algorithms interpret motion differently, and in some cases, this can result in discrepancies like the one you noticed.

That said, based on your note that the walk was 8.3km, it does seem likely that WHOOP may have undercounted steps or underestimated calories in this instance. We’re always working to refine these metrics, and detailed examples like yours help us improve.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you notice anything else — and thanks again for being part of the WHOOP community.

Thanks for the reply. I can give several examples. It’s repeatable. Whoop seems to be consistently undercounting steps and calories.
I appreciate there will always be rounding errors and differences in the way the data is processed across different apps, but there is clearly something odd happening here.
(I made a post earlier about it with other examples but that was too wordy and had no replies. :man_shrugging: )

I have exactly the same issue here.

Friday

Whoop 13265
Apple Watch Ultra 2 21364

Saturday

Whoop 12624
Apple Watch Ultra 2 17980

Seems every time and always a huge undercount.

I would not mind so much but the steps input into the whoop healthspan age

My husband has done a couple of walks with his Apple Watch and also measured it out via GPS in order to see how accurate his watch is, since he is on a mission to prove to me that it is superior to whoop  Turns out the Apple Watch is remarkably accurate. I have upgraded to the whoop 5.0, and the steps are about 20% lower than the Apple Watch. I’m super disappointed with this product in so many ways.

And if you switch to a bicep band, 5.0 will underestimate steps even more, then on the wrist. For that price and what this device delivers, its just frustration!

Awesome. Totally worth the price :laughing:. They have told me that I’m welcome to cancel any time, but will not get any refund of the extra year subscription that I purchased in order to get this amazing 5.0.
