Reps tracking and exercise swaps

I really value the ability to build and track structured workouts. Having prior weights/reps prefilled when I open an exercise is great because it helps me track progress and benchmark performance.

Problems / friction points

  1. Rigidity of workouts: Once a workout is created (e.g., Push Day), every set and rep must be “played” through the app. If I normally log 4 sets of squats but only do 2 on a given day, I can’t just stop — I either need to delete sets (which changes the template for the future) or log them as completed even though I didn’t do them.

  2. Exercise swaps: Sometimes I want to substitute an exercise (e.g., cable flys instead of bench press). Currently I have to delete/add, which also erases the continuity of performance history.

  3. Performance history visibility: When I start an exercise, I only see the last logged session. I’d like to see progression across multiple prior sessions (e.g., strength-focused week vs endurance-focused week) to better benchmark performance.

Feature requests / improvements

  • Ability to skip or “opt-out” of sets/exercises during a workout without permanently altering the template. This would let me adapt volume to how I feel on a given day.

  • Ability to toggle or substitute exercises within a plan without losing historical data, so I can choose between alternatives on the fly.

  • Expanded performance history view per exercise (not just the last session), so I can track progression across different rep/weight schemes.

Hey @maxdxb,

Thanks for laying out your thoughts so clearly, especially around how deleting or adding exercises erases your performance history. That’s a really helpful example of where flexibility could make Strength Trainer smoother. The ability to swap movements on the fly, skip sets without breaking a template, and view a broader history of reps and weights all line up with how a lot of members train in real life. We appreciate the feedback and will pass it along to our product team.

Great feedback and spot on!

Couldn’t agree more! These points are basically why I’ve stopped using this feature. For me it’s very important to have an easy way of viewing the history per exercise and/or have the weights pre-filled from my last session.
