Hi WHOOP Team and Community,
I am writing to you from China, as one of your newest members, and as someone who has fallen in love with what you have built far faster than I ever expected.
Just a few days ago, I strapped WHOOP onto my wrist for the first time. The next morning, when I opened the app and saw my sleep laid out in front of me, every stage, every disturbance, every minute of deep sleep and REM, something shifted inside me. For years I had treated my body like a machine I could push without limits. That morning, for the first time, my body had a voice, and it was telling me the truth. My recovery was in the red. My HRV was low. I had slept barely three and a half hours. WHOOP didn’t judge me. It simply showed me, gently and honestly, what I had been ignoring.
But every morning, and every night when I check in before sleep, I run into the same quiet wall: language.
I read “Sleep Performance,” “Strain,” “Respiratory Rate,” “Sleep Debt,” and I find myself stopping, copying words into a translator, rereading sentences, and guessing at meanings. When it comes to my health, I don’t want to guess. I want to understand.
I know I am not alone. China is home to more than 1.4 billion people, and across Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and Chinese communities around the world, there are tens of millions more who think and feel in Chinese. More and more of them care deeply about sleep, recovery and well-being, and many would cherish WHOOP the way I do, if only it spoke to them in their own language.
Adding Chinese is not just a translation task. It is an act of respect. Chinese culture has valued health, balance and self-cultivation for thousands of years. WHOOP is, in many ways, a modern, data-driven expression of values Chinese people already hold dear. From a business perspective, localization is a modest investment compared to one of the largest and most passionate health-conscious audiences in the world. From a user experience perspective, every recovery insight that is truly understood is an insight that is truly acted on.
So I am asking, sincerely: please bring Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese as well, to the WHOOP app and WHOOP Coach.
And I want to help. As a native Chinese speaker, I would be glad to beta test a Chinese version, review translations, and check whether terms like Strain, Recovery and Sleep Performance feel natural and accurate to Chinese readers.
If you also want Chinese support, please vote for and reply to this post so the product team can see how many of us are waiting.
Thank you!
Junson, a devoted WHOOP member from China
