Initial Feedback & Bouldering Activity Request

I’ve only been on Whoop for 10 days and loving both the data and insights so far!

Read and heard lots of criticism about HR accuracy, and while I fully appreciate it’s user specific, for me it’s been absolutely flawless, and only used on the wrist so far.

For context, I’ve been training seriously with HR for ~15 years now and currently rotate between a Polar H10 and Garmin HMR Pro+ for all my running, cycling & strength sessions. I’ve never relied on optical heart rate (other than a Polar Verity Sense) as none of the watches I’ve had (Garmin, Coros and more recently Suunto) have ever been close to accurate…step in the whoop 5.0!

Appreciate it’s a small sample size, but all the activities I’ve done over the past 10 days, be it run, road cycling, mountain bike or indoor trainer road workouts, have been bang on with my chest straps. They’ve all been within +/- 1bpm on both avg and max (when start end time of activity is fully aligned). I’m super impressed, to say the least, not to mention how good the auto detection is! Kudos to Whoop’s data engineers and data scientists. Being an Azure Data Engineer myself I know how challenging getting models like this right is.

I’m no fan boy, far from it, but often find when coming to forums like this you only find the ‘bad’ stuff which tends to skew the perception of how a product might actually perform for the majority. Hopefully anyone who reads this will benefit from it in some small way!

I’m hoping my initial experiences with whoop are a sign of what’s to come and excited to be on the journey.

My one ask : please add bouldering as a strength activity type. While I’ve yet to have sufficient data to unlock the healthspan feature, I’ve read up on how strength specific active is one of the key inputs and, as someone who boulders twice a week around my endurance activities, would like to see bouldering recognised as a strength (and arguably aerobic) activity to be used in the model for calculating whoop age. Feel like I’m going to be penalised for doing no strength work when I can finally see mine in 11 days time…

Re: Bouldering. There are two things we need to do on our end that we’ve heard from the community: (1) We need to add Bouldering as an activity so that when you go to start activity, it’s there to click, and (2) We need to have a few more discussions around bouldering’s impact on the Healthspan feature. I just added this note from you to the Product team’s ticket on this topic so that it’s categorized and there for them to read as well.
