I find it quite upsetting that the current Sleep Performance algorithm does not directly factor in the percentage or hours of restorative sleep (specifically Deep and REM stages) into the overall score. As science shows, these deep stages are crucial for both physical and mental recovery. It’s possible—even with 100% Sleep Performance—to have little or no restorative sleep if all time is spent in light sleep, which makes the score potentially misleading.
I strongly urge you to consider including a direct weighting of restorative sleep time (Deep + REM) in the Sleep Performance calculation. This would make the metric more meaningful and aligned with what truly matters for long-term health and peak performance. Until then, I feel the current system isn’t accurately reflecting sleep quality.
Thanks for considering this suggestion and for your continued work on improving WHOOP!
