I’m writing as a WHOOP 5.0 user for the past two months. While I’m overall satisfied with the product, there are two critical UX limitations that already make me question whether I will extend my subscription.
I wanted to share constructive feedback in a structured way, hoping it contributes to future improvements:
⸻
1. Wake-Up Function – Need for Sleep-Phase-Based Wake-Up Within Time Window
The current Smart Alarm feature only triggers when recovery is in the green zone. This is not ideal, especially for high-performance professionals who may not always achieve optimal recovery. In such cases, waking up during a light sleep phase is still far better than being jolted out of deep sleep.
• Request: Please allow a sleep-phase-based wake-up within a manually set time window, similar to the “Sleep Cycle” app
• Optional recovery-based wake-up could remain available, but sleep phase timing should be user-prioritizable
• This would significantly improve real-life usability in demanding work environments
⸻
2. Strength Trainer – More Intuitive and Hands-Free Control Needed
The current approach of manually starting and stopping each set via the phone is disruptive and breaks workout flow.
• Request: Enable double-tap or haptic control via the WHOOP band to start/end a set
• Add a pause timer feature that triggers a vibration when rest time is over
• Alternatively or additionally, enable control via live notifications (similar to what’s available in normal activity tracking)
This would make the strength training feature much more practical and less intrusive during actual workouts.
⸻
I hope this feedback is helpful and would be happy to hear whether these ideas are already on your roadmap or under consideration.
Hi Yannik - thanks for this super thoughtful post. We’re grateful to have you in the WHOOP Community - cheers to 2 months!
RE: Phase-based wake up alarm. I think this is a really cool idea. Of course, it’s worth noting there are 3 distinct options for the wake alarm: In the Green as you mention, Sleep Goal, which both allow you to set a specific latest wake time, and then Exact Time which just operates like a traditional alarm.
Your concept of a Phase-Based alarm is certainly distinct from those options, however, and I can totally see why that’s a compelling functionality. Personally I’d love something like that myself too as I know how important it is to avoid waking during deep sleep. I’m sharing this feedback with our Product team right now so they can explore if it’s feasible from a tech perspective.
RE: Strength Trainer auto-progression. Agreed, this is a smart one too. I’m also bubbling it up to the Product team now to see if it’s something they can incorporate into the existing feature enhancement roadmap.
Keep on sharing great feedback and don’t hesitate to post if you have any questions for the Team or WHOOP Community
I’ve just started using Whoop. It’s fantastic, but the sleep phase wake up is a critical feature for me, and sounds like for others too. Is there any confirmation that this is a feature being developed and added? Or even better, a timeframe? I cannot have a “smart” alarm wake me up from deep sleep early in my window just because I’ve hit 85% recovery. That’s great for my workouts but miserable for my morning.
It’s not different from your alarms now btw, it just needs to be added to current feature. Once the alarm window opens, check for user’s recovery condition, check for light sleep, if both are met, alarm. If not, wait until both are met or window closes to set off the alarm.
