Heart Rate Stopped working after 6+ months of no issues

Hi everyone,

I’ve been using the Whoop 4 for over 6 months and have been very happy with it overall. However, over the past couple of weeks, I’ve started noticing measurement issues.

For example, I’ll go on a continuous 3-hour hike and it gets logged as 3–4 separate activities. More recently, during a cycling workout, my heart rate stayed stuck in Zone 1 for about 18 minutes, then suddenly jumped into Zones 4–5 for the final 2 minutes—even though my effort and pace were consistent the entire time.

Something clearly isn’t working as it should. What’s frustrating is that everything worked perfectly for months, and these issues appeared out of nowhere.

I genuinely appreciate what the Whoop team has built—I’ve even recommended it to many of my clients (I’m a health coach). That’s why this is concerning, and I’d really like to understand whether there’s a known fix or calibration issue, especially given that the device performed well for the first 6 months.

Has anyone experienced something similar, or found a solution?

Hi @ronanus43 , thanks for reaching out! I’m sorry to hear about the flux in HR. I’d advise:

  1. Clean the sensor: A quick wipe of the sensor and skin contact area can make a big difference.
  2. Reboot the device:
To reboot your device, please navigate to Device Settings by selecting the device icon in your app. Then go to Advanced > Reboot Device.

If you are still seeing inconsistencies, the team at support@whoop.com will be able to take a look to see if light is reaching the sensor, or if any hardware flags are occurring.
