Health Connect Fields on Android/Google

After every rowing session on my Concept2 I have to manually input distance/speed/split so that the Whoop Coach can monitor progress and provide insights. In Health Connect the Whoop app is allowed to read both distance and speed data (and many other fields) via ergData → Health Connect →Whoop but it is not reading them for some reason.

I asked the AI the reason and received:

“You’re right that WHOOP can read Distance from Health Connect (as your screenshot shows), but today WHOOP still treats Health Connect–imported activities primarily as:

• start/end time

• heart rate stream

• calories / basic activity info

Row distance from Health Connect isn’t currently mapped into the rowing activity details the same way native WHOOP GPS or water rowing sessions are. That’s why you see strain and HR for an imported row, but not the distance you know is in Health Connect.

Under the hood this is basically a product/implementation limitation, not a permissions issue on your phone: the integration pulls the activity, but the distance field isn’t yet being surfaced in the WHOOP activity UI or used in rowing summaries the way you’d expect.

If/when WHOOP changes that mapping, your existing Health Connect permissions are already set correctly—nothing you’d need to change on your end.”

Is there a limiting factor here that I’m not aware of?

Hey there! What you’re seeing aligns with the current limitations of how WHOOP integrates with Health Connect. While permissions may allow access to additional data like distance and speed, not all of those data fields are currently mapped or surfaced within WHOOP activities, especially for certain activity types like rowing.

So in this case, it’s not something you’re missing or need to adjust on your end, but rather a limitation in how that data is currently being utilized within the app.

We understand how valuable it would be to have those metrics automatically included, especially for tracking progress and getting more meaningful insights. We’ll be sure to pass this feedback along to our product team as they continue improving integrations and activity tracking.

Appreciate you flagging this!

Thank you for the reply. Are you saying that Whoop does in fact pull all the requested fields but that they are not implemented due to the individual activity (rowing)? If that’s the case can you share why this self-imposed limitation is in place as I cannot see a conflicting downside to whether it be a treadmill/erg/bike/etc?
