Accuracy of step count - whoop mg

I am new to the mg. I just worked out on an elliptical. I didn’t start the activity before the start of the workout. When i finished my step count for the day was 10,500. I entered the activity and duration and then my step count read 8,600. This doesn’t make sense to me. Does anyone know why this would occur?

Thanks for your help.

Hey @basil59,

If you manually add an elliptical workout after the fact, you might notice your step count changes, and that’s totally normal. WHOOP estimates steps based on your overall movement patterns, and when you add an activity like the elliptical (which involves different motion than walking or running), the algorithm may adjust the data. In some cases, steps that were previously counted from general movement might get reclassified as part of the workout, which can make the total step count go down a bit.

It’s all part of how WHOOP works to give you a more accurate picture of your activity by recognizing the difference between types of movement.
