Unlock Strength Trainer Potential

Some suggestions that would make the strength trainer a lot better:

  • Dropsets!
  • Automatic rest timer and alerts
  • Whoop Coach powered progressive overload
  • UI upgrade for reorganising exercises in a workout

Another big thing I noticed recently is this Intensity metric which I do not understand. Today I did a workout where almost every set went to complete failure, often dropping weight to squeeze any last power out of a muscle before total exhaustion, yet my Intensity metric reads as ~40%. For me it felt very very intense.

For a while I’ve been juggling two apps during my workouts - My PT Hub for tracking exercises, sets and reps, and WHOOP for health and fitness metrics. I had been recording workouts in WHOOP as generic ‘Strength Trainer’ sessions without associating it with any specific exercises, but this week I created the same workouts in WHOOP and have used Strength Trainer “properly”.

Initial thoughts are largely positive, but with room for improvement, namely:

  • Adjusting reps during sets - yes it’s already possible, but it’s fiddly to do
  • Reordering exercises mid-workout - again, not very user friendly
  • Many more exercises required - even “standard” exercises which use equipment found in most gyms are missing

It’s encouraging that improvements are supposedly on the way (is there any indication of when this might be, even approximately?) and that experienced users such as @jackclary have offered to assist with development. Fingers crossed the update(s) address some of the feedback here and above, because Strength Trainer has the potential to become everything that we need!

Can I also add another request for the strength trainer please.

You need to add some basic offline capability back into the app, even if just for the strength training portion of it, it’s so frustrating at my gym as network reception is non existent.

With no reception the app just craps out, why do I need network reception to get the Bluetooth hr, and start/stop reps?

Thanks

Yes! so many great ideas. Can’t happen fast enough.

  • Use the AI to create workouts. The new Peloton+ Strength App is great at this, check it out to compare. I like variety so ends up creating many, many workouts to handle it all, which is cumbersome on the app. (IF I COULD HAVE ONE THING THIS WOULD BE IT)
  • On that point, app needs to be more user friendly, easier to edit, easier to add exercises, easier to super-set, more variations of how to do sets and blocks of work.
  • Suggest weights and progressions
  • Track Weights and progress. Deload based on recovery score.

I am excited for what sounds like some great features coming soon….
