I’ve been using my WHOOP wristband consistently for 1 year, and I’ve noticed that my HRV remains consistently low—averaging around 20 ms. I’m a 42 year old male. I’ve tried all recommended strategies to increase my HRV without success. Does anyone have thoughts on why my HRV would average at 20 ms baseline, and how to look into improving it?
Personally I think whoop runs low. When I check other devices I am a fair bit higher but also low like you I run low. Something’s to note, HRV goes down with age and HRV is unique to everyone. Someone’s 60 could be equivalent to your 20. Whilst trying to do things to increase it might work to some degree you might just be at your peak and nothing will change it. Mine is 24 to 28 fairly consistent on Garmin, 18 - 22 on Whoop. Pay more attention to the health monitor range, as long as you are green you are doing fine. Do not pay much attention to recovery, HRV plays a massive part in this and with a low HRV a few points swing will throw a big percentage and Whoops recovery doesn’t like that. I wish they would use the Health Monitor range rather than a percentage. Basically don’t get too hooked up on having a high HRV ![]()
