I am writing to bring to your attention a very serious issue I’ve encountered with my WHOOP band. The problem specifically arises when I’m doing sports like cycling, indoor spinning, or using an elliptical. During the first few minutes of exercise—and this happens about 25-30% of the time—the heart rate readings are completely off. For instance, the WHOOP shows my heart rate as 170 or 180 beats per minute when I’m actually feeling perfectly normal, with a steady breathing pattern. I’ve cross-checked this simultaneously with devices like an Apple Watch and a Huawei device, which show a much more realistic reading of around 70 beats per minute at the same time.
WHOOP’s support has suggested that I might be wearing the device incorrectly on my right wrist and that I should place it on my upper arm for more accuracy. However, this explanation is not reasonable. I understand there might be minor differences depending on placement, but what I’m seeing is not a slight inaccuracy; it’s a massive error. It doesn’t matter if I put it on my wrist, my arm, or even theoretically on my foot—there’s no plausible scenario where a 70 bpm heart rate should read as 170. This is clearly a quality issue with the device’s heart rate monitoring, and I suspect there may be something fundamentally wrong with the algorithm.
I am forced to rely on my Apple Watch for accurate readings whenever I exercise, and I’m only using the WHOOP for other metrics. I would appreciate it if you could address this issue seriously and provide a real solution, as this is not a matter of wearing it in a different spot but rather a fundamental flaw in the device’s performance.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
