Incorrect high heart rate at beginning of a run

This seems to be happening on most runs. I’ll start off easy (probably <130 bpm) but whoop thinks I’m going all-out for the first 5-10 minutes of the run. Finally it seems to correct and get back to more reasonable numbers. Anyone else having this issue?

I had the same issue when biking. After awhile it seemed to sort it’s self out. Not sure why it happened or how it solved it’s self. But lots are saying similar things about HR. I just closed a support ticket on this subject but it wasn’t really solved by support, just seemed to gradually fix it’s self. Although I did tighten the band and move a little further up my arm.

I’m in my second day of trial and I see way too high HR readings mainly near the beginning and/or end of walks. Whoop band is wear as recommended above wrist bone, snug with clean sensors.
I’m waiting for support further advice.
Have you sorted your issue?
Have you tried biceps band or other way in your attempts to improve readings?

My only advice is to slide the Whoop up your arm before setting off on an activity. I am usually 4 fingers from the wrist bone. This has worked for me. After exercise I slide back to a more conventional/comfortable location.

Thanks for the tip. Sliding it up to 3 fingers width above wrist bone seems to improve things but after one hour of walk it jumped to around 140 - 150 bpm for 15 minutes anyway.
I guess I’ll need to experiment with measuring around biceps.
One thing is sure, the HR sensor seems to be way behind Apple Watch in terms of reliability of measured values and my AWU is worn just one finger above wrist bone without any issues.
I hope Whoop will give me better results from biceps area. I’m keeping fingers crossed :o

I have the bicep strap but not used it. I would assume it will be better but I do not fancy switching between straps. I need wrist based for ECG & Blood Pressure. Best Whoop could do is to allow users to use Whoop sensor or pair to an external HR chest strap or better still get the data from another App Like Garmin. Wahoo, Strava etc.

Same is happening to me sometimes. Easy walking at around 5km/h on a flat ground with 150bpm’s :frowning: My Garmin Venu 3 is around 90bpm’s. For weight lifting the 5.0 is unusable, it doesnt get any HR peaks. Its frustrating and my 30 days test period is over, that brings joy. Now my 5.0 is laying on the table and i’m using my Venu 3 again. Lessons learned :frowning:

In my further testing I’ve finally found that I need to tighten the band more than I’ve initially expected. More than Apple Watch Ultra and then Whoop stopped giving me unreliable HR readings.

It’s worth to play with it more to find the level of snugness that works and possibly experiment with different locations.

For me it’s now giving fine readings even one finger width above wrist bone. Although it’s a bit too tight fit for my liking so I’ll experiment with a bit looser fit and just moving it higher up the arm for increased snugness during workouts/activities.

Good luck!
