Hi WHOOP Product Team,
I wanted to share some feedback as someone strongly considering deeper adoption of the platform.
One thing that feels contradictory in the current experience is that the app heavily encourages spending time in Zones 4 and 5 during workouts, yet there’s no simple way to monitor heart rate in real time without constantly pulling out a phone.
I actually agree with WHOOP’s overall philosophy of not turning the product into a distraction-heavy smartwatch. I think avoiding notifications, apps, texts, etc. is part of what makes WHOOP appealing in the first place.
However, I believe there’s a massive opportunity for WHOOP to introduce an alternative minimal display device option for its users (not a replacement for screenless!) that shows only:
-
current heart rate
-
heart rate zone
-
Nice to have: current date and time, workout duration,
That’s it. No smartwatch features. No notifications. No apps.
A minimalist HR-only display would solve the biggest hesitation many people have with WHOOP today while still preserving the company’s core philosophy around focus and passive tracking.
Personally, this is the single biggest reason I’ve hesitated to fully commit to WHOOP over competitors. I know many others feel the same way. People want WHOOP’s recovery and health ecosystem, but they also want frictionless real-time workout feedback without needing a second device or constantly checking their phone.
I genuinely think an optional minimal display accessory could take significant market share from competitors by appealing to people who want something between a smartwatch and a fully screenless tracker.
Thanks for building a great product and for considering the feedback.
