I’d like to suggest adding the ability for WHOOP to sync and import GPS activity data from devices and platforms such as Garmin and Coros.
I’m aware that you can manually start a run from the WHOOP app and use the phone’s GPS, but this has two downsides:
It requires starting multiple systems in parallel (WHOOP + GPS watch), which adds friction to the workout routine.
Phone GPS can sometimes be less accurate than a dedicated device like a Garmin or Coros watch, especially in challenging environments (e.g., trails, dense urban areas).
Currently, WHOOP estimates VO₂ Max based primarily on heart rate data. Combining this with high-quality GPS pace and distance metrics from external sources would make VO₂ Max calculations significantly more precise—particularly for outdoor running and cycling.
Many of us already rely on GPS watches for accurate activity tracking. Integrating that data directly into WHOOP would reduce duplication, save time, and enhance the platform’s overall accuracy.
Hi @Jakub87, thank you for the feedback. I hear you loud and clear. I’m, going to pass on this feedback directly to the Product & Hardware teams. I know as a team we’ve discussed GPS functionality like this, and all customer feedback helps set our priorities, so I appreciate you vocalizing this. Thank you!
If for political reasons collaborations with these companies don’t work, maybe a Strava pull could work or at least a post run import of a gps file (exported from e.g. coros) could do the trick
Nothing to do with politics… Oura and Ultrahuman import distance, HR, pace and metrics from Google or apple health easy its just whoop bad decision to don’t import sadly
Hi @jakub87 and @Almeida35 , thanks for the notes. To clarify: If you turn on the Apple Health integration, GPS data will be imported into WHOOP. You’ll then be able to see GPS data will be imported into WHOOP if the app that records the GPS writes it to Apple Health. To turn on Apple Health kit, follow these steps: Whoop Support
Hey @Durkin , thanks for your reply. That’s true and clear, but exclusively works with Apple Watch only. Would be great to have this with Coros / Garmin
Just another quick question towards the whoop team,
If I switched from Coros to an Apple Watch, would the gps data import from the Apple Watch (without starting any workout from the whoop app) be then used for improved vo2max tracking it is this only supported when a workout is started through the app using the phones gps data?
@Durkin just bringing this up again. Can you confirm that when wearing an Apple Watch and only starting the running workout on the Apple Watch, it would sync gps route to whoop automatically (that is working) and now the question:
Will the whoop vo2max estimation also use the imported gps data from Apple Watch? Without starting the whoop app running workout and route enabled?
Wanted to confirm this before actually buying an Apple Watch
Bumping. Would love to see this feature available for Garmin/Coros, or via a pull from Strava. Honestly thinking about switching to Garmin at this point because relying on my phone GPS for runs isn’t good enough, too many errors.
I I love all the features my Whoop has, but with the current developments from Garmin, it makes it hard to argue for Whoop. Especially since I noticed that the wrist HR tracking of Whoop seems inaccurate compared to a standard, cheap HR chest.
Also, one huge pain point for me is the GPS tracking with Whoop. Having your phone with you on a run is super annoying. I decided to wear my old Garmin watch because of it. If Whoop would simply take the GPS data from my Garmin, it would be okay, but since that is not possible, I probably will turn in my Whoop and invest the money saved for a higher-end Coros or Garmin.
