Feature Request: State-Aware Bedtime Haptic Nudge — only vibrate if I’m still awake
I’d love to see WHOOP add a new type of bedtime intervention to Sleep Planner:
A haptic bedtime reminder that only activates when WHOOP believes I’m still awake.
This is different from a normal scheduled bedtime alarm.
WHOOP already knows my recommended bedtime based on Sleep Need, sleep debt, planned wake time, and my goals. But the hardest part is often not knowing when to sleep — it’s actually stopping what I’m doing at that moment.
A normal notification cannot distinguish between:
-
still working or scrolling,
-
winding down,
-
lying quietly in bed,
-
or already asleep.
Proposed behavior
In Sleep Planner:
“Haptic Bedtime Nudge — only if I’m still awake.”
At or around the recommended bedtime:
-
WHOOP evaluates whether I still appear clearly awake.
-
If wake confidence is high → one gentle haptic nudge.
-
If I appear asleep, am likely falling asleep, or WHOOP is uncertain → do nothing.
-
Optional second nudge 10–15 minutes later if I’m still clearly awake.
The important principle would be:
When uncertain, don’t vibrate.
That would make this much smarter than a normal bedtime reminder.
WHOOP already has personalized Sleep Planner recommendations, sleep/wake detection, continuous physiological signals, Sleep Consistency, Sleep Need, and wrist haptics. Combining those capabilities could create something genuinely useful:
Instead of telling me the next morning that I went to bed too late, WHOOP could help me make the better decision while I can still change the outcome.
It would also be easy to evaluate experimentally: recommended-bedtime adherence, Sleep Consistency, Sleep Performance, sleep debt, false nudges, and longer-term opt-in retention.
I’ve seen previous requests for bedtime alarms and haptic reminders. I think the state-aware “only if still awake” logic is the missing piece.
I would also be very happy to beta test this feature and provide structured feedback if WHOOP experiments with it.
