Easy to cheat my Strain!

Today I needed to hit a strain of 15 to 17 according to the coach. On my bike ride I wasn’t feeling it so instead of pushing the Whoop up my arm for better HR accuracy, I left it close to the wrist bone. Lo and Behold my HR was elevated and hence a higher strain. There is no point to Whoop if I can manipulate the results this easily. Yes I am only cheating myself but then again who is to say what is most accurate, close to wrist bones or further up the arm. My opinion is Whoop needs to take lead from other devices that handle exercise better. Garmin, Wahoo or Strava for cycling/running, other apps for other activities. If Whoop only uses HR and it’s wildly inaccurate it seems a huge flaw. HR is only one part to determine activity effort.

I am not really trusting Whoops Strain or Recovery at the moment.

I never had these feelings with the 4, but since getting the MG I’m starting to think this is all just snake oil.

This is my first Whoop, I was turned to it by the fact Whoop sponsored the Giro D’Italia. If it’s sponsoring a top cycling event it must be good. So many small issues is making me think it was released well before it was really ready. This Community is awesome but also scary seeing so many issues people are having, especially Whoop 4 users dismayed at Whoop 5. I think Whoop staff are reading and hopefully in the background taking note of our posts. Just hoping this is early adopter syndrome and soon all issues will be resolved. :slightly_smiling_face:

Yeah fingers crossed.
Sponsoring is just advertising. Anyone can get their brand on something if they pay the money. There was a Tour De Trump in the USA in 1989!
But Whoop are definitely trying, and I did really enjoy my 4. Hoping the MG / 5 issues get ironed out. Very disappointed the product and software wasn’t QC’d more vigorously before launch.

I have the same experience since Whoop 5. A very slow run, an easy swim or just lately taking a shower triggers an activity of 15 and more. On the flip side a 5 hour bike race last weekend in which I spent a total 90 minutes above my threshold also resulted in an activity of 15.

With this inaccuracy, Whoop becomes useless to me since I cannot rely on the strain and recovery recommendations anymore.

Yeah seems to be a theme I am hearing from people who went from 4 to 5. I hope it’s software related but with the 5 being smaller, thinner and lighter I wonder if it’s affected more by vibrations and odd movements. Really hope software issue
