Double/triple tap to start/stop activity

Currently, the device can detect a double tap to disable an alarm. Use the same functionality to surface a new feature: double/triple tap to start/stop an activity.

Let’s say triple tap for the purpose of this feature request.

On the condition the alarm is not active (ringing), a triple tap would start an activity recording session. Every 5 minutes through the activity the device would do two short haptic pulses to remind the user the activity is still being tracked. Triple tapping at the end of the session closes the activity and waits for the user in the app to record the activity type.

Use case: I like to record my morning routine of gym → sauna → swimming → sauna → cold shower, but find it frustrating to have to keep going back to my phone to start and stop recording each of the individual activities, I’d rather be able to do that from the device and then after the complete session just go in and select activity type for each one.

I guess this one might not be as easy as it sounds because Whoop detects the taps with the accelerometer. With the alarm it’s easy because you can check “is the alarm ringing” and then “did the user double tap”. I imagine there might be movement patterns in the day that could be interpreted as a triple tap and start an activity you don’t want?!

I see what you mean, and definitely a good point, although I’d have thought it would have been the same with how iPhone’s have the double and triple back tap functionality which I rarely have false positive triggers on - but I appreciate the devices are used in different ways
